Cleaning & Safety

Are Professional Carpet Cleaning Products Safe for Kids and Pets?

It's one of the most common things people ask before booking a carpet clean, and a fair one — you're inviting a cleaning process into a home where children and pets spend most of their time on the floor. Here's a straightforward answer, without overpromising.

What hot water extraction actually involves

Our standard method, hot water extraction, is mostly water. Hot water mixed with a cleaning solution is injected into the carpet, agitated to loosen dirt, and then extracted straight back out along with the dirt it's lifted. The carpet is left damp, not soaked, because the extraction step removes the large majority of the water and solution used. There's no chemical bath left sitting in the carpet after we're finished — that's rinsed and pulled back out as part of the process.

Being honest about what we can promise

We're not going to tell you our products are "100% safe" or "completely non-toxic" — those are big claims, and we think you deserve a more useful answer than a slogan. What we can say is that we use cleaning solutions suited to the carpet and the job, and that the process is designed to rinse and extract rather than leave a heavy residue behind. If you have a specific concern — an allergy, a sensitivity, a young baby who's on the floor a lot, or a pet with particular health issues — the right move is to ask us directly when you book, so we can talk through the specific products and approach for your situation rather than you having to guess from a general answer on a page like this.

Practical steps for keeping kids and pets safe

  1. 1

Keep the room clear while we work

It's easiest for everyone if children and pets are in another room or out of the house while the cleaning itself is being carried out.

  2. 2

Stay off the carpet until it's dry

We'll give you a realistic drying time before we leave — usually a few hours depending on the room. Keeping kids and pets off the carpet until then avoids re-soiling it and keeps paws or bare feet off damp fibres.

  3. 3

    Ventilate the room

Open windows or use air circulation where you can — it speeds up drying and helps clear any smell from the cleaning solution faster.

  4. 4

Tell us about any specific sensitivities upfront

If anyone in the home has allergies or sensitivities, or you have a pet with particular needs, mention it when you book so we can talk through the products and plan the job accordingly.

Common questions

Can I let my kids or pets in the room right after cleaning?

It's best to keep young children and pets off freshly cleaned carpet until it's dry — usually several hours, depending on the room and ventilation. We'll give you a realistic drying estimate before we leave.

What's in the cleaning solution you use?

Hot water extraction uses mostly water with an appropriate cleaning solution matched to the carpet and level of soiling. If you have a specific sensitivity, allergy, or a product concern, ask us about it directly when you book — we'd rather talk it through than have you guess.

Does the carpet stay soaked after cleaning?

No — hot water extraction leaves carpet damp, not soaked. The extraction step removes the great majority of the water we use, and the carpet dries fully within a few hours with normal ventilation.
