What we treat

Everyday stains, treated the right way for what they are

Different stains behave differently, and what works on one can set another in deeper. We look at what caused the mark and how long it's been there before deciding on treatment.

Wine & drink spills

Red wine, tea, coffee and other drink stains respond best the sooner they're treated, but older marks can often still be lifted or significantly reduced.

Mud & everyday traffic marks

Mud, footpath grime and general traffic soiling in hallways and living areas — common in Dublin with the weather we get.

Grease & oil-based marks

Cooking grease and oil-based stains need a different approach to water-based ones. We match the treatment to the type of mark.

For stain-by-stain advice you can try yourself before we arrive, see our stain removal guides.

Odour treatment

Dealing with a smell in the carpet, not just masking it

Carpets can hold onto odours from damp, smoke, cooking or general everyday use, even when there's no obvious stain to see. Where the smell is coming from a general source like this, treatment is aimed at the carpet itself rather than covering it with fragrance. If the odour is specifically from a pet, our pet stain and odour removal page covers that in more detail — it needs a slightly different approach.

Standalone visit or full clean?

Which one makes sense for your situation

A single fresh stain, or a small number of specific marks, can often be treated as a standalone visit without cleaning the whole carpet. Where staining is widespread, the carpet hasn't been cleaned in a long time, or there's general soiling alongside the stain, a full clean usually gives a better and more even result — and it's often not much more than a targeted visit once we're on site. We'll tell you honestly which one we'd recommend when you get in touch, rather than upselling a full clean you don't need.

FAQ

Common questions about stain removal

Can you remove old, dried-in stains?

Often, yes, though results vary depending on the stain type, the carpet fibre, and how long it's been there. We'll give you an honest assessment before we start rather than promising a guaranteed result on a mark we haven't seen.

Is stain removal guaranteed, or could the mark come back?

We don't promise a 100% guarantee on every mark, because results depend on the stain, the carpet and how it was treated before we arrived. What we will do is give you an honest view before we start, and let you know if a full clean would give a better result than spot treatment alone.

Do I need a full carpet clean, or just the stain treated?

It depends on how localised the problem is. A single stain or a few marks can often be treated as a standalone visit. Widespread soiling usually gets a better result from a full clean — we'll recommend whichever suits your carpet.

What affects the cost of a stain removal visit?

Cost depends on how many marks need treating, how set-in they are, and whether it's a quick spot treatment or better handled as part of a full clean. See our prices guide for the general factors, or request a free quote for an exact figure.

How soon after a spill should I get in touch?

The sooner the better, generally — a fresh spill is usually easier to deal with than one that's had time to dry in and set. That said, don't panic if it's been a while; older stains can often still be treated, just sometimes with a different approach.

What should I do before you arrive?

Avoid rubbing a fresh stain or using household products on it if you can help it, as some can set a stain further. See our guides for stain-specific advice while you wait for us.

Can you treat red wine, coffee or tea stains?

Yes, these are some of the most common marks we're called out for. Wine, tea and coffee are tannin-based stains that can set further with heat, so avoid a hot iron or hairdryer on them before we arrive — see our stain removal guide for more on treating them at home in the meantime.

What about ink, blood or candle wax?

We can assess these too. They each behave differently on carpet — wax needs to be lifted rather than rubbed, for instance — so it's best not to experiment with home remedies that could spread the mark further, and let us take a look instead.

Does it matter if my carpet is wool or a synthetic fibre?

Yes — different fibres react differently to heat, moisture and cleaning agents, so we take the material into account when deciding how to treat a stain. Wool in particular needs a gentler approach than most synthetics. Let us know the carpet type when you request a quote if you know it.

Can you get rid of a smell in the carpet, not just a stain?

Yes, for general odours like damp, smoke or everyday use — treatment is aimed at the source in the carpet rather than just covering the smell. For odours specifically from pets, see our pet stain and odour removal page.

Can a grease or oil stain come back after it's been cleaned?

Occasionally, yes, if any residue was left behind from an earlier home attempt — the oil can work its way back to the surface over the following day or two. Professional treatment aims to draw it out fully, but let us know if a mark reappears after we've been.

Do you treat stains on rugs as well as carpets?

Yes — the same honest approach applies to rugs. See our rug cleaning page for how we handle different rug materials, or mention it's a rug when you request your quote.
