We use hot water extraction (steam cleaning), which flushes dirt, dust and residue out of the carpet or fabric rather than just cleaning the surface.

Drying time depends on the carpet type, how soiled it was, and ventilation in the room. We'll give you a realistic estimate on the day and some simple tips to help it dry faster, such as airing the room and keeping foot traffic light. See our guides for more.

We take care with the products and methods used in homes with children and pets. If you have specific concerns or sensitivities, mention them when you book so we can talk through the approach.

Our technicians match the method to the carpet or fabric type rather than using a single approach for everything, which is part of why we ask about the material and condition before we start.

Yes, and it's a common combination. Book the visit for the morning if you can, so the mattress has the day to dry. See mattress cleaning.

Yes, with care. Wool gets cooler water and wool-safe products, jute and sisal get little or no water, and viscose is tested and sometimes advised against. See rug cleaning.

Not as standard. Genuine leather needs leather-specific care rather than hot water extraction. Send a photo and we'll tell you honestly whether we can help.

Yes. Dining chairs, armchairs, headboards, ottomans and office chairs are all covered on our upholstery cleaning page.

It helps, but it isn't essential. We vacuum as part of the job, because dry soil needs to come out before the carpet gets damp. Clearing small items off the floor helps more.

Somewhere reasonably close to the door is ideal, as the machine and hoses come in from the van. Tell us about permit parking, apartment car parks or narrow streets when you book.

Yes. The machine plugs into a normal socket and is filled from a tap, so we'll need access to both. If the power is off in an empty property, mention it when booking.

Keep them in another room while we work and until the carpets are dry, so little feet and paws don't track across damp carpet. See our preparation checklist.

Blot with white kitchen paper, pressing rather than rubbing, then dab with a little cold water and blot again. Avoid heat and avoid piling on products. Our stain removal page has a stain-by-stain table of first steps.

Sparingly. Shampoo that isn't rinsed out leaves a sticky residue that attracts dirt, so carpets can look worse a few weeks later. For a small spill, cold water and a drop of washing-up liquid, blotted out, is usually safer.

They can help with a light smell on a synthetic carpet, but they rarely reach the source of a pet or damp smell, and vinegar isn't a good idea on wool. If a smell keeps coming back, it needs treating where it starts.

For a light freshen-up between professional cleans, they can be. Their suction is much weaker, though, so carpets are often left wetter and with more detergent in them. See professional vs DIY carpet cleaning.
